Updated 5/7/20: The EEOC has announced there will be no EEO-1 reporting obligation in 2020. The EEOC would expect to begin collecting the 2019 and 2020 EEO-1 Component 1 in March 2021 and will notify filers of the precise date the surveys will open as soon as it is available.
With so much of our time and energy devoted to handing the COVID-19 crisis, it’s easy to forget other time-sensitive tasks need our attention as well. Enter the annual EEO-1 report. The EEO-1 report requires company employment data to be categorized by race, ethnicity, gender and job category. Employers with 100 or more employees or employers with federal contracts of $50,000 or more with 50 or more employees are required to submit survey data to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on an annual basis. Historically, the EEO-1 report would have opened by now, but the process for reporting data to the EEOC has been delayed. According to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), June may be the earliest the survey opens.
Currently, the EEOC does not intend to continue the collection of Component 2 data for the 2020 EEO-1 report. Component 2 data was previously required for the 2019 EEO-1 report and required hours worked and pay data for employees.
The EEOC will announce the survey opening on their website www.eeoc.gov and will also send a communication to EEO-1 eligible filers.
