California recently readopted their third COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) which included a number of changes that would allow more flexibility for employers when dealing with COVID-19 matters in the workplace. Further information regarding the newly adopted changes to the ETS, can be found in our May 2022 HR Focus.
In response to the ETS’ latest revisions, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) has also released a number of updated resources to assist both employers and employees with understanding the changes. Cal/OSHA made updates to their Revisions to the ETS FAQs and General COVID-19 ETS FAQs. The revisions to the ETS FAQs more so speak specifically to the changes that occurred as well as other requirements from previous ETS reiterations, whereas the general ETS FAQs speaks to the applicability of coverage of the ETS. Additionally, Cal/OSHA has released updated versions of factsheets for Isolation and Quarantine guidance and a general overview of “What Employers Need to Know” speaking to the updates of the ETS.
Next Steps for Employers
It is highly recommended that employers review the newly issued guidance in order to remain abreast of the changes that have occurred to the ETS. Additionally, employers who have questions or need assistance with workplace safety and health programs, including assistance with developing a COVID-19 prevention program at their worksite, may reach out to Cal/OSHA’s Consultation Services Branch directly at 800-963-9424.
