Effective September 1, 2021, the Firearm Carry Act permits individuals in Texas who are at least 21 years old to carry a handgun without a permit or license, unless the individual is otherwise prohibited from carrying a firearm under state or federal law.
Employers retain the right to prohibit handguns on their premises with proper notice to individuals.
Next Steps for Employers
Employers, specifically those wishing to prohibit handguns in the workplace, should review their workplace violence and/or weapons in the workplace policy(ies) to ensure the Company’s position on handguns is explicitly communicated to employees.
