A group of HR Works’ employees have crocheted 600 red hats to donate to the American Heart Association for babies who will be born in February. Employees crocheted these hats to celebrate American Heart Month, in connection with The Children’s Heart Foundation.
Little Hats, Big Hearts™, honors babies, moms, and heart healthy lives in a special way. Locally, the American Heart Association is giving these hats to babies born at Highland Hospital, Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, Rochester General Hospital, Strong Hospital, Thompson Health, and Unity / Park Ridge Hospital. Nationwide red hats will be given to thousands of babies during American Heart Month in order to empower moms to live heart healthy lives and to help their children do the same.
Last year, Tricia Benjamin of HR Works was inspired by the American Heart Association’s initiative and organized a team of her colleagues to work with her in crocheting these hats. The team collaborated on different patterns and styles while working hard to hit their original goal of 500 hats. They exceeded their goal with a total of 546 hats donated in 2018. This year, the team set a new goal which resulted in a donation of 600 hats.
The project was organized through the HR Works Community Works Program, a volunteer program developed and run by HR Works employees as a way for colleagues to share and give back to charities within the surrounding community. Each year, HR Works and its employees donate countless hours through Community Works events.
